Ever since I was little I had a dream, and that dream was to become a teacher that everyone respects and admire. It wasn't until I met Dr. Sun in Cal State LA that made me realized this dream CAN come true. I gave up my path towards business and started the pursue of education. In September of 1990, Chiao-Hsin Chinese Language School was found by the inspiration and encouragement of Dr. Sun. She allowed me to boldly open up the school of my dream. In 17 years, Chiao-Hsin is renowned throughout the San Gabriel Valley area for the quality of the education it offers. Its faculty is comprised of university-educated teachers, all of whom possess great experience in the field of education.

The parents of our students, on the other hand, come from more varied backgrounds including China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, Korea, and even Mexico. The interest of these multi-racial learners gave me more interest and insight about education. Our "target" is no longer just the next generation Chinese children, but everyone whom has the thirst for wanting to know more. In conjunction with teaching Chinese reading, writing, and grammar, we also teach the traditional bopomo phonetic system and also the more current hanyu pinyin system as students advance in their studies. Surprisingly, this year's Startalk Program is made up by the majority of Hispanic students. We're all so very excited and touched by the fact that its importance is now so widely received. As our class went on, we can see their knowledge grew with their longing to learn more about the Chinese culture.

I feel blessed to feel so youthful at my age by being around children all the time. Their care-freeness and happiness can truly be seen and felt by others around them. They are so impressionable and able to teach. I believe that a truly happy child needs the support and love of his/her parents, but just as importantly, the teachings of a dedicated teacher.

Beyond the education in Chinese language and culture that we provide, Chiao-Hsin also provides after-school programs geared towards students who need extra help in subjects that they take in American school. For those students requiring a little extra help, Chiao-Hsin also employs a number of teachers who specialize in tutoring English, Math, and a variety of other subjects. Also, through the help of a number of annual fundraisers, as well as the generosity of international and local sponsors, Chiao-Hsin also offers a number of scholarship and financial aid programs for those students who are in need of them.

Although Chiao-Hsin is a small school, we prefer to think of it as an extended family, where teachers and students alike use love, patience, and understanding to educate and enrich one

another.
